Hard at work

Building a staircase.

Gherkin, It's great to be 8!

She celebrated her birthday! She is busy planning her baptism. We will have it April 27 at 4:30 pm in Waterloo. Anyone who can come, please do and congratulate Gherkin on her decision to follow her Father In Heaven. She has made some amazing choices and we are so proud of her. She really thinks through her decisions and really weighs others feelings too. We are so grateful for our lil spontaneous ball of glee. She is a true example of following the Savior. She is walking the path he has walked and doing a splendid job.

Oops! I tried.

Part of my copy, didn't copy and I can't get it to let me edit so I will just make a new post.
Grandpa used to build her a HUGE garden every year and planted holly hocks across the garden gate and strawberries and grapes and numerous fruit trees.
Grandma Terry watched her first newborn with her, William Bird and she learned to change her first diaper with her at 9 years of age and she was so scared that he would get hurt while she was taking Grandma Nora potty.
Grandma taught her to bake cakes and cookies and make all kinds of foods.
She had lots of good memories of Grandma.

Favorite Memories of Nora by her granddaughter, Marian Terry
She used to write to all the boys who were in the Service in Walker, and surrounding communities even though she was crippled she was diligent.
Used to have Rev. Scott from the Methodist Church, and the whole church meeting at her house so she could be involved. Had refreshments and so she had more social contact.
She'd cry and rub her knees from the pain of rheumatoid arthritis.
She used long silverware to eat with and somethings she had to be fed.
She loved to sew and made quilts and rugs. Sit for hours tearing up material for rugs and sew them together and roll into big balls for someone to work together. Even though she couldn't walk she kept herself busy serving others and LOVED to have family come.
Neighbors would visit and kept her happy since she wasn't able to get out. A very loving Grandma.
She crocheted even with crippled hands. She was pretty happy with anything put in front Grandma go potty and she was afraid of the responsibility of that small of a baby and Grandma Nora.
She was really active for what she couldn't do.

Is it, could it be, it is!

So this morning we were all sleeping and Parents and Pickle wake up and aren't sure why. We look at the clock note the time, and go back to sleep. Dad had heard something, Pickle couldn't figure out why she didn't remember having a bad dream but appeared to be shaking and why it was making her bed shake. Moving along through the day, Pickle watches her water bottle shake during school and wonders hmmm... Yep, we had an earthquake. 5.4 on the richter scale. Again, PLEASE GET YOUR EMERGENCY KITS PREPARED! Even if you never use it, it is not a waste of $$$. You can always implement them into your regular diet and rotate them out. A little added confidence when things go wrong. The teachers were discussing today how these earthquakes are the build up to the massive earthquake that is supposed to split the US by 2010. We really can't rely on others to bail us out. We have to do the best we can to prepare now, and keep it up. Kids were mostly rocked back to sleep and most didn't even notice. Be aware and protect your families. They are your most precious gifts and priorities.

Just Horsin' Around

They are out of control! Don't get me!

Pickle's Car and her ribbon-going to State

Mom gets to chaperone the girls. We will get to spend some time together in the capital and see all the physics the 12th graders have been working on. All the businesses about town have enabled us to go almost for free! Go Washington!

Too Serious

Princess teaches Sir Talks A Lot to smile for the camera. Right before his combo concert.

He has been making lil steps here and there...

Bribe me with Fruit Loops and I go anywhere you want me. Mommy rather likes him being a baby however, so she won't bribe him. I might bribe Frosty into potty training though. ; )

Dynamic Duos

My livingroom reeks of testosterone. Usually we have the area scattered with barbie remnants. I have heard so much about bad guys and good guys. Jon and Frosty are my biggest protectors. They are constantly on the lookout for errant bad guys, with their "shoot things" in tow. Puppie is just happy if he can eat.

Early Morning Pillow Power

Too much fun this early in the morning. Like those Barbie boots they adopted? They have been having sooo much fun. Of Course this is a change for me, I am mostly used to girls and boys are a whole other world. I know I have 2 boys, but 4 boys under the age of 3 is completely different! Now I see the wisdom in them coming 1 at a time usually. We are having fun though. We played outside and helped Dad with the van and deck.

The Clean Team

I think it should be called hard at work, but it's really hard at play.

2 New Baptisms!

They call Dad, Grandpa, long story... But they are the newest members of our Branch and good news! The Tory's are coming to our Branch too. We are growing by leaps and bounds. So exciting. We are really happy to get to know everyone.

Storms

We had lots of storms, and our basement flooded. We are getting it cleaned up. Oh, the joys of home ownership. Long gone are the days of call the landlord. They have to fix this. It's pretty cool yet, we are getting new skills and working together and we are actually enjoying it. We had a tornado warning the other night and got to spend close time as a family, and bonus round was we got to see how to improve our safety set up. I was really proud of our kids though. Only a couple panicked. They did really really for the most part, moved quickly and got to where they needed to be pretty fast. It was a really good practice run. Hopefully we will never really need out packs, but we noticed we were a lot calmer since we are prepared and it alleviated a lot of the kids fears about inclement weather going through the motions. It was still scary since I know it was there and watched what it did right around us. Tis the season for living in Iowa. So a reminder, have your packs ready, weather can turn on a dime! Keep a weather radio and have a wonderful spring and summer but pay attention to your surroundings.

There's a Snake in my Boot! - Toy Story

Just kidding----It's a squirrel in my bathroom! For real, it freaked me out so bad! It has this weird desire to join our family. It has tried the roof, it has tried the door, it found its way through the exhaust fan to the downstairs bathroom. So now you can hear it in the duct work from the outside. AARRGGHH! It chatters and I leave the fan out so it will stay away from the whirling blades and won't want to come any closer. Frosty says, "Oh Mom, we need a pet! He's probably hungry and smells the food. I get him!"
No! I don't think so. We are trying to get him out, but he is a bugger. 3 guys jumped on my toilet, tub and chairs trying to wrangle the little guy out. IT BETTER NOT BE FEMALE! Wish us luck and if anyone has any ideas....Please I am all ears. I don't remember this episode on this old house! It is never boring at our house. Something is always happening. I guess my deck is put off a little longer until Chip or Dale is gone!

Mom and Dad

This is what my husband and kids define our relationship as. The kids have made us spaghetti dinners and cued up the movie and scattered in the backyard to eat so we could have "couple time" to celebrate our Anniversary. I think they are really funny.

Out of the Mouths of Babes

Ok, Frosty was talking to Mommy and Princess and tell us how much he loved horses. He told us when he grows up he wants to be a Cowboy. I said, "You are a cowboy." "And I want to be a Mommy." He insists. I say, "You can't be a Mommy, you're a boy, you get to be a Daddy." He starts whining and saying over and over he just doesn't want to be a Daddy. "Why?" is my obvious question. Earnestly, he replies, "Daddy's have hair on their backs and bald spots. I want to be a Mommy." Now, it all makes sense. You can avoid a hairy back by being a Mommy. Hmmmm. Doesn't it make you wonder how they process everything else? Certain things that you teach in FHE or through the natural course of the day, can come back DRASTICALLY different when you probe with a few questions. I love how they think so innocently and simply. Princess and I laughed so hard.

Pickle's Open House

Ok, Pickle graduates May 25, 2008
Her Graduation Party is May 26, 2008
3-5 pm and for those who asked
it is a Do Not Host Party

We have joined forces with other Parents that are committed to obeying the law and hosting a Grad Party with No Alcohol or Smoking allowed. It is a really great idea they have to commit to have parents not provide alcohol to underage youths. It seems to be growing trend and become more widely accepted to provide alcohol to minors with the thought they are at home and they won't get hurt. Truth be known, it is still breaking the law. People still get hurt. Not many have been hurt at parties with no alcohol provided.

We will have Light Refreshments and time to talk and relax. It should be a really great time to celebrate Pickle and her accomplishments and dedication and drive to succeed. She is so awesome, she deserves her own party! Don't you think? So come and cheer her on in her new adventures in life.
