Finding Peace

Master the tempest is raging! The billows are tossing high! The sky is o'ershadowed with blackness. No shelter or help is nigh. Carest though not that we perish? How canst though lie asleep? When each moment so threatening a grave in the angry deep?

The Winds and the waves shall obey thy will. Peace be still.
Whether the wrath of the storm-tossed sea Or demons or men or whatever it may be.....
Peace, Peace be still.

This song has been playing in my head over and over this morning.
Some days are harder to deal with than others. Brad being gone so much is hard. Talking on the phone isn't the same as a hug and someone to cry on when everything falls apart.
Alcoholism is one of the most pernicious evils of our day.
It tears the very cloth of the family and rips it to shreds. It damages the souls of those it touches and leaves gashes and holes too big to be filled alone. It mangles the fragile trust built between parent and child. It sends ripple effects out from the parent-child relationship that is farther reaching than you would ever expect.
The only one big enough to heal all these hurts is Christ alone. It is imperative that when the waves of life crash out upon us, that we know where to fall. We have to have implicit trust that no matter what is dished out it will be to our benefit. We must remember that He alone is in control and every wrong will be made right. When in the midst of our trials we may believe He is unaware but the very opposite is true. He does care and He is still working for our benefit. Sometimes the answer is just to be still. Allow Him to work and keep on loving, and serving. Those caught in the evil tenacles, are trapped. We are not. We are still free. We get to choose how to react and how to help turn it into a blessing. We are down, but not out, we are hurt, but will rise again. Better and stronger than ever because we KNOW that if we will allow He will change our very natures and allow us to be the family and individuals He needs. We will be obedient. Peace, peace be still.
