Sandbagging Efforts

We grabbed as many people as we could and sandbagged. We sandbagged for hours and it was actually really fun. We met lots of really nice people and were surprised at some of the reactions of people when they realized that we were all from the same group. We hauled a lot of sand. You can see in the last picture how close we were to the flood waters as we were protecting their water supply so Iowa City still has drinking water. We also helped at a church, but I just saw on the news that our efforts there were in vain. Sadly, it is up to the roof there. So much destruction, so much sadness and loss. We are organizing efforts for people for clothing, water and personal care items. Some places are only taking donations of cash. We don't have a lot of that, but we do have an excess of clothes to part with and well water that isn't contaminated. Pretty cool to see the communities rally around each other. Pretty harsh to see the devastation in peoples faces as they lose everything. You can be especially proud of our Youth though. They were MACHINES. I have never seen such dedication towards people they didn't know and were expecting nothing in return. We just hope our small efforts will be multiplied by the Lord and we can ease the burdens of as many as possible.
